Cadet Okechukwu is a native of Dallas, Texas, and yields proud Nigerian roots. Okechukwu attended Southern Methodist University, where he studied Music Education and Vocal Performance. During his time at SMU, he joined the international touring cast of Carousel. Following graduation, he was a high school music director in Plano, Texas, where he choreographed productions, musicals, and pop concerts.
Okechukwu enlisted in the US Army in July 2017 and is currently Active Duty. Throughout his Army career, he has accepted, many honors, such as the Best Warrior Competition in Fort Knox, Kentucky, and being named the 2018 Fort Gordon Soldier of the Year. He currently attends Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University, pursuing a Master’s degree in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy. As a performer of other instruments, including piano and guitar, he also enjoys reading, arranging music, and participating in outdoor activities in his free time.
Okechukwu thanks his family back home in Texas and in Nigeria for their love, and support. He thanks God for courage to enlist and for allowing him to pursue his career. He credits his future endeavors and success to the many who impact his life, both soldiers and civilians.
